The PDF versions of the IDL documentation set are not installed along with IDL by default. If you would like to have access to the PDF versions from within the IDL online help viewer, do the following:

1. Copy the PDF files from the info/docs subdirectory of the IDL CD-ROM to the help/pdf subdirectory of your IDL installation. (You will have to create the pdf subdirectory.) Be sure to read the README file in the info/docs directory for important details.
   
   If you choose to install the PDF files in a different directory, use a text editor to modify the file pdf_info.html (this file) in the help/online_help subdirectory of your IDL installation. Modify the links to reflect the correct path from the help/online_help subdirectory of your IDL installation to the directory to which you copied the PDF files.



2. In the IDL online help viewer, select Settings... from the Edit menu. Select the PDF tab and specify the path to your PDF file viewer.
   
   Note that while the PDF files will display in other PDF viewers, the full-text search facility will only be available if you use a version of Adobe Acrobat to view the PDF files. Acrobat is available at no charge directly from Adobe.



3. Optionally, remove this text from the pdf_info.html file.
