Task 6 : TOWARDS A MEDITERRANEAN CLIMATE SERVICE FOR WATER-RELATED RISKS (HEAVY PRECIPITATION AND FLOODS, HEAT WAVES AND DROUGHTS, SEAL-LEVEL RISE)

Leader: M. Vrac (IPSL/LSCE) / Partners: CNRM-GAME, ENSTA, IPSL, LEGOS-CEFREM,MERCATOR

Objectives: In order to evaluate the regionalized simulations on different aspects, we will develop a set of qualitative and quantitative indicators of their quality and capability to generate consistent climate features in comparison to the observed data. Those indicators will then serve to assess the uncertainty of the ensemble of regional projections. Note that the objective of this task is not to go up providing indicators as a service but to address the relevant scientific questions around the key information content of regional climate model outputs used to address issues of impacts and vulnerability of Mediterranean communities. Moreover, various statistical bias correction methods will be applied to stand-alone and coupled RCM simulations in order to assess the potential added value of such a hybrid dynamical-statistical procedure. This task is divided into 3 sub-tasks:

  • Task 6.1: Identification of relevant diagnostics and indicators
  • Task 6.2: Uncertainty associated with the diagnostics and indicators
  • Task 6.3: De-biasing procedures for standalone and coupled regional climate models
