ERA-5

ERA5 is the fifth generation of ECMWF  (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts). This reanalysis is a key contribution to the implementation of the EU-funded Copernicus Climate Change Service  (C3S) delivered by the ECMWF. A subset of this new reanalysis  is available for the IPSL scientific community on mesocentre ESPRI. Products have been extracted at ECWMF on regular latitude/longitude grid and converted from GRIB  to Netcdf4 compressed (level4). Note that the ERA5 archive is also avalaible at IDRIS. We will complete the archive as it is produced at ECMWF.

ERA5 dataset is public and free of charge however you need to accept the ERA5 Test terms and Conditions (Licence): http://apps.ecmwf.int/datasets/licences/copernicus/ 

NB: You must be a member of the IPSL to access to these data on  our ESPRI/IPSL server.

The fields have been interpolated to standard pressure levels from the original model levels.

Format

The data files are in the compressed netCDF4 format and are compatible with the CF convention. It defines the meaning of attributes, the naming of variables, the units, the coordinate variables.

The files are organized by variable,  by month for analysis  4xdaily fields.
