Dataset Title POLARCAT 2008 summer campaign: aircraft aerosol measurements over Kangerlussuaq (Greenland)
Dataset Purpose POLARCAT aimed to quantify the impact of trace gases, aerosols and heavy metals transported to the Arctic and their contribution to pollutant deposition and climate change in the region.
Dataset Abstract POLARCAT is an International Polar Year project, which mostly organised aircraft- and ship-based campaigns into the Arctic during spring (Arctic Sweden) and summer (Greenland) 2008.
Acquisition Methodology During summer 2008 the French aircraft ATR-42, based in Kangerlussuaq, performed 12 scientific flights with extensive aerosol measurements. In general, flights performed during the first part of the campaign (on 5, 7 and 8 July) targeted North American air masses, whereas flights on 12, 13 and 14 focused on Siberian fires.
