Dataset Title CALIPSO: Global satellite observations of cloud and aerosols vertical profiles
Dataset Purpose The main objective of CALIPSO, among others, is to provide measures to significantly improve the quantification of the indirect effect of aerosols on global and regional scales.
Dataset Abstract Franco-American mission selected by the NASA to supply a unique data set of atmosphere vertical profiles measured by the satellite CALIPSO (Cloud Aerosol and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations).
Acquisition Methodology There are three instruments onboard CALIPSO: the lidar CALIOP (Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization), IIR (Imaging Infrared Radiometer) and WFC (Wide Field Camera).
Quality The CALIPSO signal is currently calibrated using nighttime profiles by normalizing the high‐altitude return signal to a molecular model and daytime calibrations are interpolated from adjacent nighttime calibrations.

Access Constraints There are images available for public access through ICARE as well as downloadable products (after registration)
Use Constraints All ICARE data and services are free of charge. Users are encouraged to widely use them for research and application development. However, any publication using ICARE data or services must properly credit both ICARE and the original data providers (if applicable).
